Unfortunately it would be too expensive to bring the level of security up to impenetrable standards but below you will find a colour coded list to enable you to raise the level of security to the standards given:

Red  – Essential

Amber  – Important

Front and Rear Lighting

Security lighting, this is a massive deterrent to the burglar!  Pixlocks has its own 17th edition electrician at hand to advise on front and rear positions.

Front and back doors

The Door has to be solid timber and of at least 44mm thickness, held in place by 3 x 100mm hinges.

Install a viewer and door limiter or chain “Don’t forget to use them”

An auto dead latch cylinder should be installed 1/3 of the way down the door.

Red - 5 lever Mortice (BS3621:2004) should be fitted 1/3 of the way up the door.

To the top and bottom of the door fit a pair of at least 100mm bolts using 25/10 screws.

Important note:

Aluminium and UPVC doors are becoming more common, security press bolts can be fitted to most aluminium doors. 
Currently there are no secondary locks on the market for UPVC, make sure your existing Euro locks are to a kite mark standard.

Ground floor windows

All accessible windows should have a key operated lock installed of some description.  Choosing the correct lock is vital to the security of your home.  Pixlocks locksmiths are able to advise on a selection of suitable solutions along with offering FREE advice!
